On December 5, 2013, at 4:40pm, officers responded to a shooting at 2013 Mariposa Mall. Officers arrived and found Arthur Howlin, 27, suffering from a gunshot wound. Howlin was transported to CRMC with a non life threatening injury. Howlin was treated and released from the hospital. A bullet struck a business but fortunately no customers were inside of the business.


Street Violence Detective Vic Miranda conducted immediate follow-up investigation and determined that Howlin was involved in a verbal disturbance with another male. That male was identified as Strother Boy gang member Keshawn Jones, 26, of Fresno. Jones is a discharged parolee with an extensive criminal history. He is currently hiding out in the Fresno area.

Fresno County Man Arrested, Victim Assaulted With Machete

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office today announced the arrest of a Selma man after he beat and assaulted a 36 year old female with a machete.  Arrested was 23 year old Roque “Rocky” Valencia Jr.


          This past Saturday morning, shortly before 8:30am, deputies responded to a residence located in the 14000 block of S Academy Ave regarding a disturbance involving a man armed with a machete.


          When they arrived, deputies immediately contacted and detained Valencia who was standing outside the residence.  Although not armed at the time of his arrest, deputies later recovered the machete inside the residence.


          Deputies then contacted the 36 year old female victim who was still inside the residence.&

Gang Member Wanted for a Stabbing

On Saturday, November 2, 2013, Southwest patrol officers responded to Yosemite/Nevada for a call of a stabbing victim.  Officers located an 18 year old male victim suffering from a laceration to his neck.  The victim was transported to CRMC for treatment and survived his injuries.  Medical personnel told detectives had the laceration been slightly deeper the injury would had been severely life threatening. 

Officers learned the victim was walking down the street when he was approached by the suspect.  Without provocation, the suspect yelled out “College Street” and slashed the victim in the neck. 

Street Violence Section Felony Assault Detectives Alfonso Castillo and Justin Hoagland were able to identify the suspect as 19 year old College Street Bulldog gang member Jose Nicholas Moreno.  Moreno is outstanding and currently wanted.  The motive is still unknown.

Street Gang Member in Custody for a Shooting

On Sunday, November 10, 2013, at 12:12pm, Southeast patrol officers responded to 921 N. Peach regarding a shooting into an apartment.  When the apartment was struck twice by gunfire, it was occupied by an 18 year old male and (5) juveniles ranging in ages 7 to 17 years old.  No one was injured by the gunfire.

Street Violence Section Felony Assault Detective Conrado Martin was able to identify the suspect responsible for the shooting as 22 year old Samson Street gang member John Tucker.  Tucker and the 18 year old male victim knew each other and a dispute led to the shooting.

On November 11, 2013, Tucker turned himself in and was interviewed by Detective Martin.  Tucker confessed to the shooting and was booked into Fresno County Jail on (6) counts of assault with a deadly, shooting into a residence, and negligent discharge of a firearm.

On November 13, 2013, the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office filed charges against Tucker.

Missing Person

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office announced that on October 12, 2013 they received a report of a missing person last seen in the City of Fresno.    Yesterday afternoon friends reported 53 year old Tamara Staten as a missing person.  Tamara had left a day program in the 1600 block of East Saginaw at about 11:00 on October 12th and she has not been seen since that time


              Tamara is described as being 5’7” tall, 179 lbs., with gray hair and brown eyes.  Tamara was last seen wearing a green military style jacket and carrying a brown purse. 


              Tamara is considered to be at-risk due to a reduced mental capacity.
